Discovered on November 24, 1826, by the Scottish astronomer James Dunlop, NGC 1365 is a member of the Fornax Cluster, a group of more than 50 known galaxies. It is classified as a Seyfert galaxy, with a bright active galactic nucleus containing a rapidly-rotating supermassive black hole at its center.
